Charles Reginald Eason was born on August 26, 1905, in Elizabeth, New Jersey. His father, Charles W. Eason, was a truck driver.

Eason lived at the college YMCA while attending Rutgers and graduated in 1929 with a degree in mathematics. While at Rutgers, Eason formed a close friendship with another black mathematician: Reuben R. McDaniel (class of 1928). After graduation, Eason followed McDaniel to North Carolina to teach math at Shaw University. While at Shaw, Eason met Sarah Elizabeth Martin, who was also a member of the faculty, and they were married in September of 1937, with Reuben McDaniel serving as one of Eason’s groomsmen.

Eason eventually moved back to New Jersey and worked as a physicist at the Evans Signal Laboratory in Belmar in the 1950s.
